Highlanders: Jeff Barker

(14) Jeff Barker

Wing
Age: 41
Hometown:
Height: 5-10
Weight: My drivers license says I’m 200 so it must be true
Started Playing: At age 10 to about 14 then quit for 25 years
Why hockey ? I’d be lying if I didn’t say the money, chicks and product endorsements including my own line of protective cups, but like all overpaid celebrity athletes I really play for the love of the game.
Favorite thing about hockey: the rinks are always showcasing the latest arcade games, the fact that really really fat women can wear the same hockey jersey as their mullet sporting boyfriend and nobody seems to care, and who isn’t just a little intrigued with Don Cherry.
Style of play: A lot of people have compared my game to the late Earl Anthony, bowling legend and Tacoma native. Earl approached the game with a steely-eyed focus and never drank more than one beer per frame. I’m like that but for hockey.
Favorite NHL Team: Chicago Blackhawks
Favorite NHLer (today): Pavel Bure
Favorite NHLer (ever): That’s easy, Tom Hodges, Spokane Jets 69-78. “Captain Goon” later distinguished himself off the ice when he opened the “Tom Hodges Open Net Tavern” adjacent to the Spokane Coliseum. The Open Net tragically closed its doors when Tom was convicted of solicitation of a minor, weapons position, operating without a license and in general, low quality bar food. Tom was a true leader on and off the ice.
Favorite food: Anything Thai
Favorite beer/beverage: Anything served to me in a plastic cup while in Mexico
Favorite Movie: Spinal Tap and everything from Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy and the Cohen Bros, The Matrix
Other Stuff... remember gentleman, always tip your waitress, they don’t make the same money the regular dancers do.
